City Launches Website
By Brenda Brown
Mirror Staff Writer

Ever wonder who serves on the Planning & Zoning Commission? How about who's in charge of code enforcement? Need a contact at the airport, the cemetery or the lake?

All of that information and more is available on the City of Gladewater's new website, www.ci.gladewater.tx.us .

The city commissioned NEHWilliams Design to create the online site, which was formally unveiled by its creator during the December city council meeting.

Web designer Nathan Williams of San Antonio said the website covers "just about every aspect" of the city's operations, from profiles of city employees to a satellite photo of the city. The website also gives a history of the city, along with accurate information regarding city fees, current boards and commissions and a rundown of every city department. Photographs of city employees and sites about town are also featured.

"Welcome to the online home of the City of Gladewater 'Antique Capital of East Texas'" the opening page reads.

While citizens can't pay bills or fines online, they and others can find information on everything the city has to offer. The website can be updated easily and will not require the web designer to make the changes or post announcements and city employee Sherry Roberts will be in charge of posting announcements and agendas.

This website is designed to provide information about events and services and includes information about:

  • the city council, its meetings and agendas, as well as the city charter and ordinances.
  • all city departments and personnel.
  • Gladewater's official community profile with helpful demographic information.
  • helpful contact numbers and information on city sanitation and water.
  • information on various boards administered by the city and the people who serve on them.
  • and helpful community links to the Chamber of Commerce, Gladewater ISD, GEDCO, Kilgore College, Gregg and Upshur counties, and a local map.

The website also features a plethora of photographs of people and places around town.

Williams said he will work to get the website noticed by search engines and in the future the city's online address will be a little easier to remember: www.cityofgladewater.com. For now, however, the less memorable address must be used.
